Hello,

I have a 2008 535i which comes with the MSD80. Can I purchase second hand MSD81 to work on this vehicle and use AutoHEX II to change ISN in CAS to match?

Thanks

You can make the engine starts if you just change the ISN.
But you will have a lot of fault codes besides to very low power.
Your better to replace using same hardware.

Thank You for the information

I was wondering, why would this be the case? It appears that BMW no longer sells the MSD80, and the new replacement is the MSD81 according to ETK. I may be mistaken.

Thanks.

Maybe you are correct too.
Try to start the car, and check faults.
Autohex II can write the flash of SMD80 into the MSD81, so it could be totally OK.
What I am afraid of, if anything different in hardware between MSD80 and MSD81, you will see a lot of faults.

I ordered a second hand MSD81 and MSD80 just in case it does not work. I will report back the results.

Autohex was able to retrieve the 128SK from the second hand MSD81. It had to downgrade the CAS module, however it now says vehicle order is corrupt after downgrade. I tried overwriting it from data from LM. Nothing is changed. I attempted to write SK from MSD81 to original CAS, Autohex shows successfully performed. However when i check the CAS module, the original ISN and SK are still present in CAS. Nothing is changed. Car only cranks, but does not start, EWS anti-tampering faults stored. I also tried with a second hand MSD80, same results.

Please assist.

From Indiv programming, please get the BMW Part number of the CAS.
Then please send it by email, we will answer you what to do depends on part number.
The message you are getting is fake, it will be removed in next release 1.0.29 which will be available within few days.

Replacement with second hand MSD81 was successful. Downgrade of Flash of CAS module failed initially, just restarted programming, and was successful. Wrote SK to CAS from used MSD81 and calibrated fuel injectors. Engine runs now.

Thanks
