Hi

When CAS modules need firmware downgrades in order to read the CAS ISN, how safe is it?

What are the chances of damaging the CAS whilst doing this?

Autohex give a warning message that ' the CAS may be unusable after the process, and a back-up of the CAS should be done' before the process.

So my question is, how safe is it and what are the chances of damaging bricking the CAS so that it cannot be used again?

Thanks

For CAS with part number: 938XXXX and 939XXXX you will get this warning message (4 parts numbers only) because this CAS with EWS5 security. Other parts numbers (Like 928XXXX,927XXXX and 926XXXX) are 100% safe (EWS4 Security).
Anyway, If you have a BDM tool, don't worry...just go forward. what ever will happen, we can recover it for you.

which BDM would you recommend to work with CAS?

This depends on your budget, there are many recommended BDM tools, please google it and read some reviews.

After programming with latest ISTA P or autohex
CAS Software get EWS5 Security
After "CAS SOFTWARE DOWNGRADE"
CAS NO longer works

Hi

Have you had a problem with this?

I am very reluctant to downgrade CAS when prompted to do so, i did one on the bench a couple of months ago and the CAS died.

It seems to be a big problem.

When CAS is EWS5, Autohex II prompts you to make a backup before you do CAS firmware.
Anyway, it is solvable , Contact support to fix this issue

i used autohex to replace a dde on x6 m50d. i did get warning on cas but the downgrade worked flawless and i wrote the isn to dde without hassle. i did try to use for this job initially abritus but it couldn't extract isn from dde, so i borrowed from a friend autohex. it was a breeze to do the job. my friend asked autohex if dde is supported and after this we have done the job. the support is much better. can't wait to get my own autohex!!!
